My experimental piece, inspired by KwangHo Shin, is providing me with a lot of information. Typically, I will mix in 25% Galkyd Lite medium into my oil paint, allowing my paint to become more thin and workable. This also expedites dry time.

For this piece, I am mixing full 30oz tubes of oil paint into 25%-50% Galkyd Stand Gel, to allow my oil to stand on it’s own without extreme shrinking. The paint dries slow but forms a skin in about a week which allows me to re-enter the painting but if not handled carefully, the skin will peel away, exposing fresh, non oxidized paint that will smear everywhere.
