When painting abstract viscerally, I am never quite sure when a work is “Complete”
Is it when I enjoy the way it looks aesthetically?
Is it when I feel I no longer want to add anything more?
Is it when I grow bored of the painting?
Is it when I have achieved what I planned to achieve in my pre-sketches?

The thought of “Coal Harbour” was conceived one raining evening when I was looking out the window on the 8th floor of the Pacific Rim Hotel at their tranquil Willow Spa. The rain was so thick it looked as if the sky had sheets of water suspended from it. The rain completely veiled the harbor making the lines between water, mountains and sky indistinguishable.
